We use make-up everyday to cover
certain imperfections and skin abnormalities but at the long run, we could be
applying the exact cause of the problem we are intending to hide.
“It could cause infections of the
hair follicle and that can look a little bit like acne sometimes” says
dermatologist Dr Ramsey Markus, M.D
Dr Markus tested 19 make up
samples collected from several volunteers. He swabbed the samples, everything from
cream to liquid to powder then sent them to the laboratory for analysis.
i.
A liquid
make-up contained Streptococcus, the same bacteria that cause strep throat and
various skin infections.
ii.
Six of the
samples tested positive for bacteria of different types.
iii.
The most
alarming was a liquid powder foundation. It contained MRSA. The drug resistant
form of staph that can lead to Hospitalization.
SO WHAT CAN WE DO TO KEEP OUR MAKE-UP GERM FREE?
1.
Wash hand before applying your make-up.
2.
Do not share your make up.
3.
Make up artist should sanitize their tools after
each client.
4.
Do not leave your make-up open.
5.
Clean sweat from face before applying your
make-up especially if using powder puff.
6.
Throw make-up away after three months especially
if they start to change color, smell or look off.
7.
Wash your applicator sponges and brushes
regularly. (some even advice putting them in a micro-wave for 1 minute to kill
the germs)
